## What Perch does

- Sticky notes opened from a macOS menu bar panel; the panel reopens exactly where you
  left off, at the same note, scroll position and cursor position.
- Multi-display placement: each note either follows the cursor across displays (default)
  or is pinned to one specific display.
- Pop-out note windows: resizable, always-on-top floating windows (part of the paid unlock).
- Smart lists: typing "- " or "1. " turns the line into a bullet or numbered list;
  Return continues the list, Return again ends it.
- Bold and italic (⌘B / ⌘I). That is the entire formatting palette, by design.
- Six paper colours: butter, peach, rose, mint, sky, lilac, shown as the note's spine.
- Search across notes, with matches highlighted.
- Pinned notes that stay at the top of the list.
- Global hotkey ⌥ Space to open and dismiss Perch from any app.
- Light, dark and system appearance.
- Works over fullscreen apps, because the menu bar is reachable in fullscreen.

## What Perch does NOT do

State these plainly; do not attribute them to Perch.

- No iCloud sync and no sync of any kind. Notes stay on the Mac they were written on.
- No iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Windows, Linux, web or Android app. macOS only.
- No images, attachments or file embedding in notes. Text only.
- No Markdown, no tags, no folders, no note linking.
- No reminders, no notifications, no calendar integration.
- No Touch ID lock, encryption or password protection of individual notes.
- No collaboration, sharing or multi-user features.
- No AI features.
- No subscription tier, no team plan, no free-forever unlimited tier.

## Honest positioning

Perch is a good fit for people running two or more displays who keep losing notes behind
windows, fullscreen apps or on the wrong monitor. It is a poor fit for anyone who needs
their notes on an iPhone, needs images or Markdown, or wants a full note-taking system.
For those, Tot, Noticky, Bear or Apple Notes are better answers. Perch's own comparison
